Use cases

Below are few examples how to utilize microbond measurements to gain important knowledge from materials and their interfaces. Benefits of the microbond measurements done with FIBROBond device are small amount of material needed, quick measurements and samples do not have to be in a form suitable for laminates. You just have to have a ~30 cm of rowing or tow and 100g of thermoset resin or few granulates of thermoplastic polymer to perform the microbond measurements.

IFSS values can tell you the difference between e.g., old and new fibre batches, virgin and recycled carbon fibres or comparison of resins. We consistently innovate and test new concepts and methods to improve the field of the microbond testing. If you have a new idea let us know, and we can test it out.

  • Case 1: Aging of Glass fibre sizing

Determining current state of glass fibres. This case was ordered to measure quality changes between two different age fibres. It was measured that properties of adhesion dropped around 30 % from fresh glass fibre.

  • Case 2: Properties of recycled carbon fibre

Comparison of virgin carbon fibre to recycled carbon fibre. Recycled fibre's properties are 30 % lower than virgin fibre.

  • Case 3: Thermoplastic samples

Fibrodrop sample manufacturing can also handle thermoplastic samples. Tested polymers are PP, HDPE, PC, PEEK, PEI and PA6.
